Rose Hall Takes Good Care of Children with Allergies
In 2007 the Board of Directors of Rose Hall adopted a comprehensive policy for dealing with allergy related issues in order to ensure the safety of all of our children. The steps we take are as follows:
1. Upon enrollment, each family fills out an allergy questionnaire. If the child has allergies, a second, more comprehensive form is filled out.
2. With a doctor's prescription, the school maintains an epi-pen (and anti-histamine if recommended) for each child who might need one.
3. Teachers are trained in the use of the epi-pen each year. Epi-pens are kept nearby in the office where there is always someone to help out and to call 911.
4. Our school snacks are carefully chosen to suit the allergies of all the children in the building. As a Montessori school we have the children help themselves to snack during the day. Any food that is set out for the class is suitable for all the children so a child cannot accidentally eat something he/she is allergic to.
5. When doing any cooking or baking project, the teachers and room parents work with the parents of the children with allergies to adapt the recipes so that all of the children can enjoy the cooking, baking AND eating of the project.
